figures. the latest unmasked Gaim that Gentoo has is bloody 0.66. so I'm gonna snag the masked 0.70 and hopefully I'll be able to get on Yahoo! after that. I should probably check out my new kernels while I'm offline, too.

how disturbingly accurate. it was probably the PDA that did me. ^_^

well, I finally did it: I cleaned out my collective Gaim buddy list. got rid of all the people I used to talk to on ICQ and haven't seen online in a few years, the people I met through an AOL chat room Cory and I used to screw around with people in, the people I used to play T4C and UO with back when I played them... basically anybody I either haven't talked to in years or who refused the ICQ auth. request when I tried to re-add them.

I did keep four ICQs that I couldn't remember who they belonged to (is it wrong to have a contact group called "Who the fuck knows?"?), but aside from those I'm down to 46 buddies and 28 actual people.

now I need to get into Windows and do the equivalent cleanup in Trillian. -_-

maybe later.

okay. so 2.6.0-test6 apparently has something changed that causes it to lock up my computer about half an hour after I boot it. looks like I'm sticking to -test5 for now. oh well.

and I really need to look into the options for whatever command-line ALSA mixer I have, see if I can figure out how to unmute the main sound channel and set it to 50 or so automagically instead of doing it manually with alsamixer or alsamixergui.

oh yeah, and while we out earlier we stopped at Target ('cause we were in the area) and I finally returned my sunglasses. would have got a new pair, but I was like $1.31 short, so I couldn't. ;_; and I really liked them too.

so now I have twenty bucks, and no idea what to do with it. well, I know I should save it, but... gah! I want to get a gamepad! but I want to get a Playstation so I can play DDR, but that could end up over $100 if my pad doesn't work (for new pad plus game). but I could get a gamepad like my brother has for like $18. on the other hand, if I could find an AT keyboard, or a PS/2 keyboard and a PS/2->AT adapter, or a cheap USB keyboard and the adapter, I could get my other computer running, which would let me play with Linux even while I was in Windows. and with another 25 feet of CAT5, I could use it to check out GameFAQs while I was playing something without having to minimize it. but that's another thing that'd be more than $20, so it's kinda out for the moment.

so what I'm probably going to end up doing is spending it on razor blades in a couple of weeks. ¬_¬
