hyuriwell, I finally did it: I cleaned out my collective Gaim buddy list. got rid of all the people I used to talk to on ICQ and haven't seen online in a few years, the people I met through an AOL chat room Cory and I used to screw around with people in, the people I used to play T4C and UO with back when I played them... basically anybody I either haven't talked to in years or who refused the ICQ auth. request when I tried to re-add them.
I did keep four ICQs that I couldn't remember who they belonged to (is it wrong to have a contact group called "Who the fuck knows?"?), but aside from those I'm down to 46 buddies and 28 actual people.
now I need to get into Windows and do the equivalent cleanup in Trillian. -_-
