I’m generally very skeptical of, well—everything, really. I doubt the existence of aliens, I doubt the existence of gods, I doubt the existence of magic, of “paranormal phenomena,” of love and of honest people.

so I always feel rather silly in addition to being creeped‑out when I feel as though I’m being watched by something that isn’t sinister, exactly, but is most certainly not friendly. it’s a peculiar violation of the way I perceive myself.

it also reminds me that I used to have truly intense nightmares as a child, and that perhaps I’m not so far beyond that as I might think...

i think aliens are real, isnt just a little bit pompous to say that in this huge asss universe we are the only planet with life on it? i think they exist and are smart enough to stay away

Sure, I can see that being pompous—but it isn’t what I said. There’s a difference between [my condensed normal expansion of] “I don’t have any proof, so I doubt their existence,” and “I believe they don’t exist.” Doubting something—being skeptical—doesn’t mean that you think that it isn’t true, or that it can’t be true.

Doubt is not disbelief.

About the aliens, true enough, for much the same reasons that I doubt human intelligence.
I don't doubt the existence of gods, but hey that's my belief, and I believe strongly in everyone's right to feel free to to belief, doubt or deny as they feel fit, please continue to do so. ^_-

I can't believe that you doubt magic though.
as Arthur C. Clarke once stated: "Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic."
As such magic is nothing else then science or technology we don't grasp yet.
not 200 years ago the thought that mankind would fly was done away as fairy tales. anything that would produce that effect would surely be magic or devilry.
Also there are many alternate, and even normally accepted ways of healing nowadays which come straight from the lore of alchemists, herbalists and 'witches' of yore.

That being said, I do have my doubts about many of the ideas of magic as they appear in fiction. However, who knows what quantum mechanics will do for us in the future.
