why does everyone insist on adding -v to the tar command line? in every computer on which I've untarred files, adding verbose output has greatly increased runtime. we're talking 200-300% on some large files. if you really want to know where everything goes, try a dry run using -t instead of -x!

oh well. suppose I should file that with the READMEs/HOWTOs/"tutorials" that don't explain what the specified options do.

Oh, sure! But I much prefer getting to the actual compilation or whatever, the automated part, so I can read or something.

Unless it's a 2.5/2.6 kernel, in which case I get to the automated part so I can sleep. ^_^
