I need a new CD player. maybe. I might be able to skate away with buying a mini-stereo jack at Radio Shack and replacing it, but I'm not too sure about my chances of success. on the other hand, it'd be way cheaper if it did work. or I could shop around for a working Sony D-141, which would have the added benefit of giving me a spare motor/laser assembly. hmm...

so, yeah. I need to work on that. I also need to convince my mom to take me (or let me take the car) up to Target, so I can grab a couple of "special items". so far, no luck. >_<

on the upside, my parents owe me twenty bucks for the radiator. of course, it would be much better if they didn't owe me for it...

and while I'm up by Target I could run a couple miles over to the mall and grab a new PSX controller to once more attempt to fix my DDR pad. I think I've figured out what went wrong last time: I used a dual shock pad. and cut off the analog control board. so circuits were missing.

oh well. I'm rambling. and I've been caffeine-free for more than 2 weeks!

...again.

I bought one of the metal ones off eBay for like $50, but it died after a couple of hours and so did the replacement. so I grabbed a PS1 controller to replace the PCB and while I was scratching a straight gap through the contacts my hand slipped and I completely severed a couple of traces. needless to say it didn't work right. using the dual shock was a bad idea because it was the only reliable controller I had for my computer, but I was desperate and it was handy...

I think I broke a few of the D-pad tracings when I made mine. I just soldered from a different location on the board.

I put together my first pad from scratch about a year ago. It costed about $100, but it's held up for about year.

There is a design flaw, however. I used some insulated wire wrapping wire for the connections. It's really thin stuff and snaps quite easily. Every few months I have to take it apart and resolder the pad connections. The separate controller box was also a bad idea.

The next one will have an integrated controller box, a better pad connection strategy, and lights.

I'm astonishingly good at fucking up, sometimes. I actually severed the circuits about 1/2 cm from the little black blob of chip-thingy. two of them completely, one mostly, and I exposed the last. so there wasn't really anywhere to solder it.

the analog one shorts out weirdly, and the buttons act funny, so I'm just gonna scrap that one.

just got back from buying a new one, so I'll just do the prep work on that and put it together later.
