ill‐maintained brakes suck. why let repair slide on items with lifespans measured in thousands of miles (pads) when this damages, sometimes irretrievably, those whose lifespans are measured in tens or even hundreds of thousands of miles (rotors, calipers)? to say nothing of the relative cost differences.

I’ve a transmission to rebuild which has been waiting on a single part for several weeks. the shift kit was no problem: the valve body’s the last thing to go together anyway. I have the complete rebuild kit and even replacement bands. I have, in fact, every single part required to rebuild it, plus some. the problem lies in the fact that it’s a conversion rebuild, and I still don’t have the damned output shaft. which just happens to be the first thing that goes back into the case, followed by about 80 pounds of various parts, most of which are really awkward to handle.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around the idea that I need to tear a steering column apart to get an engine out. at least there’s no airbag....
