I have a class tomorrow at 1000, and it’s the first class of the term. and Cory and Dani have a layover at LAX on their way to Hawaii (that’s where he’s stationed for the next three years). at 1030. so now I need to track down my teacher’s contact info so I can ask him if he minds if I blow the class.

again, first class of the term.

that oughtta go over like a sack of shit.

Why do you have to blow your class for them? Can't they find their way themselves?

Maybe because I haven’t seen them in several years, and I probably won’t get another chance for several more? I don’t have to, but I want to see them.

Well, do you know how long their layover is? Maybe it's long enough for you to be able to go to class and then see them?

Screw that. First day of class is useless. Syllabus, attendance, and a meet and greet. Any teacher too much of a dick to hold it against you to see military family deserves some ipecac in the daily morning coffee.

Uh... huh. Maybe it's useless to you, but it's crucial in making a good impression on the teacher in most cases - if you're so nonchalant about your studies to miss the first day, what does that say about your dedication to your class/education as a whole?

It's not fair considering the circumstances, but most teachers have to take that into account. It's not their fault, entirely...

I sense that you have strong feelings on this subject. ^^;;;

But naw, I’ve had this teacher before; he’s cool. I was just in a, uh, less‑than‑optimistic mood when I wrote that post. He’s a good guy, even if he is a bit of a Vegan Missionary™.

And hey, it always looks better when you give forewarning about absences, rather than just not showing up.

More than half of the students in about 2/3s of the classes at my college missed the first few days, some missed the first week with no needed excuse. Maybe if it was high school, that mattered, but in college, meh.

I have no dedication to college education because I see it as a complete waste of time, money, and effort since the process is screwed up anyway.

Ugh, tough choice. I hope your teacher understands the situation. I would place my priority at LAX in this case too.

Now for the next Challenge: do you think you're going to be awake at that time? ^_~
