This is apparently a fairly common belief. I haven't yet found a consistent explanation for it, since some people have expressed surprise at my actual age even having met me face‑to‑face.

Er, badly expressed thought there. What I mean is, people who've met me, interacted with me, face‑to‑face, have later been surprised to discover my actual (chronological) age.

I'm pretty certain that I'm younger than anyone whom I've (LJ‑)friended. Maybe that's why: I always seem to hang around people older than me.

Similar things happen to me. All the time I find myself getting into conversations involving bars or alcohol and the other party is astonished to find out that I'm too young to do these things legally. "Hey, let's go to that bar over there!" "Well, we could try, but you should know..."

Although this effect is lessening as I actually get older. It seems to be only a few years now, where when I was 15, it was more like 5 years up.

And yeah, I always hung out with people older than me. As a freshman in high school, 95% of my friends were juniors and seniors, which gave rise to the idea that I was a junior. (I ignored the rules about where freshmen sit in the auditorium to sit next to my friends, for one.)

Shit, even at 20 I have a hard time hanging out with some people my age. They're still too damned immature.

lol well i totally know how you feel... all my friends have always been older. i hated people my age. all my friends graduated before me, and when i was 15/16 all my friends were in their 20s, all my friends now are late 20s/early 30s. i wouldn't have it any other way, now that i'm old enough to do stuff (even though i can't, with the baby). i keep reminding myself that my lil boy is the reason i'm stayin out of trouble and i'm not with his abusive father.
