something in my computer is making sounds vaguely reminiscent of a particularly high-pitched circular saw. I don't believe that this is a good thing.

in other news, assuming software and hardware accuracy (tone generator program, sound card, headphones), I have a hearing range of at least 10-20,550 Hz. I doubt it's quite that good, but damn... might explain a few things, though.

Power down, unplug all drives.
Power back on. If the noise is still present, time to replace a fan. Maybe the power supply, if it's that particular fan.
If no noise, then that's REALLY bad. Back your shit up and hope your hard drive doesn't explode.
