what the hell kind of spider is black; has a red, hourglass-shaped marking on the underside of its abdomen; and has silver or gold tracery on the top of its abdomen?

at first glance I'd say black widow, but latrodectus hesperus apparently lacks that tracery, though they may have white and grey markings on the side of the abdomen.

damn. I just fell asleep in my chair for a couple of hours, apparently. beddy-bye time for me.

pain and trials.

huh. the flesh just below the outer corner of my left eye is all tender and slightly swollen like I'd taken a couple swipes at it with very fine sandpaper, and I have no idea why.

my contacts seem to be working a bit better today, so maybe it's just that I'm not used to using a focal point at the surface of my eye. I'm also trying out 1600x1200, which didn't work out too well the last time I tried it on Windows. worked pretty well on Linux, but then GNOME took a shit, and, well... yeah.

so, it seems to be working okay for now. little low on the refresh rate, but nothing painful. we'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.
