hyuriwell, found a way to read all the CDs that didn't work: swap out the CD-RW for the DVD-ROM. again. of course, last time I made that switch (to fix the same problem) it was the other way 'round...

ljnetdev), but the interface is kinda fucked up yet. (the primary (and in some cases only) interface point is the tray icon? what the hell?)
and of course now my computer is stable enough to start downloading stuff again, and I had to remove the only place to put said stuff in order to get it stable.
