Nov. 7th, 2003 10:13 amso I've finally got ALSA and DRI "properly" configured as modules, with their external packages installed and all. I've also been playing around with my video card's BIOS, the information contained in which is pissing me off. (why is a Radeon 9000 Pro with 128 MB of DDR shipping with 200 MHz RAM and 250 MHz core?)
anyway, this all started because I remembered ATI's binary drivers requiring a "Built by ATI" card, and I have a "Powered by ATI" card -- last time I tried it, it didn't work. so I was changing the vendor ID in the BIOS.
apparently I missed something, somewhere, because the XFree module is still detecting the real vendor ID instead of the one I set (1002, ATi Technologies). but it says it's a supported third-party card, and it works, so maybe I could change it back.
I tried to set the RAM speed up to 275 MHz, but that resulted in a seriously borked display (good thing I can type blind); 250 MHz worked, but the Windows driver wouldn't initialize, though that may have had something to do with setting the core speed to 275 MHz. ^^;
meh. I'm gonna go play with the speeds some more, see if I can get a higher setting to work.
