apparently my cam does support 352x288 natively, despite the claims of the included capture program. on the other hand, it doesn't work as well in Linux as it does in Windows -- it's either a nearly uniformly black image, or everything is incredibly washed out. several hours of experimentation (with both module options and camE options) have failed to reveal a middle ground. so setting up a cam feed goes on the back burner.

and can I just mention that the kdebase package takes forever to build? I've been waiting over four hours for it to finish so I can kill this attempt to emerge KDE without just throwing away the hours spent compiling.
