my computer finally ate it a few days ago. first there were my troubles with Linux. these were followed by WinME fucking up its registry and eating the backups. subsequent attempts to install Win2k and XP failed because the installer claimed my drives were all corrupted.

my last two attempts to install Win98 have failed dismally, with apparently random errors. this brings my tally since wiping all my hard drives to: 6 attempts to install Win2k; 2 attempts to install WinXP; 3 attempts to install Win98, one of which died during the upgrade (downgrade?) to WinME; 9 attempts to install Gentoo Linux from various stage tarballs.

not one has worked.

in addition, we finally tore the axle out of the Oldsmobile only to discover that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it! which means that there's something wrong with the transmission.

and the battery came loose in my copy of Lufia, so my saves are toast.

this is not looking like a real good week for me. I'll be offline for the forseeable future, unless somebody brains me with a working computer. (I'd prefer it be handed to me, but the other option seems more likely.)
