hyuriurgh. okay, when GCC shows up on emerge -p world, save it for when you're ready to sleep, and make sure you have >400 MB free. check.
maybe next time I'll even remember this shit. before it kicks me in the face.
and the monster is finished! so now I can dump XFce back in here and fix my kernel config. except that I'm too damned lazy to track down the problem with the kernel right now, so I'll do that after sleeping.
