this one's been coming for a while.
Jul. 31st, 2003 10:40 pmcan someone explain to me just how, exactly, burning the United States flag is inherently disrespectful? I mean, hell, read section 176k of title 36 of the U.S. Code: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." (emphasis mine) -- the preferred method of destruction is burning. as in, set it on fire and do not extinguish until it is ash. this is what the federal law regarding our flag states!
so again, how is burning the flag in and of itself a disrespectful action?
