I've been told for years that my grandmother used to sing and play the organ. she's had a piano all my life, though I've never seen anyone play it. she encouraged, and financed, my cousin and brother learning to play clarinet.

I've also been told that she stopped when she learned that my uncle had killed himself.

I don't think anyone really grasped how much that meant until a few days ago when we helped her look for pictures of her high school.
