grar. does anyone know if it is possible to record something on your computer without the mic input coming out the speakers? ’cause it totally throws me off to hear my own voice coming back at me while I’m talking.

In the Windows Volume Control panel, there's that Properties thinger you can pull up to mess with Recording rather than Playback volumes, select "Microphone" instead of the default "What U Hear".

Something that might also help (or will work in the event that you don't see a "what u hear" option on certain sound cards), is to click 'mute' underneath "Microphone" in the 'playback' option.
