What's funny is you become desensitized to the cold after living there for so long... here in KY, people are huddling up by the fire at 30 degrees, while I'm out raking leaves in my t-shirt. lol I hope I don't lose my +5 resistance to cold spells. XD

Huh, and at the moment I'm freezing my ass of at 7 degree Celsius = 44.6 degree Fahrenheit.

But then The netherlands has really moist air, and a lot of wind. It feels a lot colder when water is freezing to your skin, and you are sandblasted by and tiny cold droplets of water and ice.

In NS, right now, the temperature generally ranges from around -2 to -15, so I'm used to the lower end of the spectrum I suppose. The air there is especially moist too, and it's hard because it's a high altitude. It sucks in February.

Tell me, why do people live there?
I mean when you start migrating/colonising the place, and you have the choice between warm and lush in one place, and cold, dank and wet in the other, who's mind goes like well, we'll take the cold place?

I mean nowadays I can imagine, there are many political considerations to avoid certain areas, as there were for my ancestors to go to Holland some 400 years hence, but 5000 years ago, when people came to what's now the netherlands.
Or 400 years ago, when there wasn't an established government on the Northern part of the American continent. I mean these people went by ship, why not follow the coast to a more amenable place?

Well, Nova Scotia around that time was mostly colonized by people known as the Acadians - they basically were direct Cajun descent who, I think, were either kicked out of America during the civil war or left because of oppression. In any event, Nova Scotia was unpopulated by anyone around that time, even Native people where in short supply, so the Acadians migrated, and though the winters were harsh, they settled there because of the radical climate shift in the summer. February and rainy March weren't enough to steer them from the especially fertile farming grounds and abundant fishing available just miles away, right off the coast, and for 6 months out of the year they could grow and catch more food than they could ever hope to buy elsewhere. I'm guessing they were poor people...

Nowadays, people move there because of the small-town mentality and the friendly people. The job market is especially lush too. ^_^

Well, I don't know what the challenge was since the first reply to this was "I lived in..." so I figure it was counting everywhere you have lived.

Though, currently, I do live in Yangon, for the next few months. I'm back in NY for Thanksgiving. I am there to finish the whole becoming a Buddhist monk think.

Well it started real slow, I just thought to look at the timezones, for real difference, and then there wasn't any. Then I got frustrated that I couldn't find something simple like the basic distance from airport to airport or something.

Also all those route-sites are absolutely useless as they don't expect you to leave your continent, while it would be entirely possible for me to drive from Amsterdam to Yangon, automotively speaking. money/sleep/int.-politically speaking it might be more of a challenge than I'm up to right now.
