Dec. 8th, 2002 12:04 amfor all the problems I have with, and complaints I have regarding my parents, they taught me one thing I will forever be grateful for: they taught me to read. of course, picking that up and running with it to the degree which I did was entirely my fault.
I had a nice post lightly outlining the extent to which this has shaped my life, but everything I've read has affected part of me, and, well, the thought of listing several thousand novels, non-fiction books, short stories, and monstrous things that make a dictionary look small seemed rather daunting, to say the least. almost as daunting as recalling that list, though I have been planning to do just that for years and eventually I probably will.
one of the big obstacles is that many of the authors have gone out of print or -- in the case of electronic publications -- packed up their websites and disappeared into the woodwork. some have "sold out" and added their works to the collections of some website or another requiring memberships. some are still writing but have removed the works I enjoyed. and many I've simply forgotten.
