okay, so, apparently a Jordache 3/4 is too small. well, if I didn't mind skin-tight and weren't measuring smaller that normal, it'd be perfect. but I actually convinced myself to try on another pair in the store, so I know that a 5/6 will actually fit just about perfectly. go fig.

I think I need to learn the idiosyncrasies of different brands. -_-

I also tried on a boys 16 for comparison; it was some serious kind of loose, but a 14 is too short. certainly explains why the pants I got for Christmas don't fit. ¬_¬

uhm...
Maybe I don't understand US measurements... but isn't 5/6 larger than 3/4?
what would mean it's logical for 5/6 to fit is 3/4 is too small?

Men's clothing: if a 14 is to short, and a 16 too loose, try a 28, it should be the width of a 14 with more length...
(at least that's the way it works over here)

Logical, yes, but it's nice to know that logic is correct. Sadly, when it comes to clothing it isn't always.

Not men's clothing: boys'. Men's pants tend to use two measurements: waist and inseam. Both of which are invariably too large..
