since I'm the "resident goth," my mom decided to ask me to find a cheaper alternative to this, for my cousin. >_<

I don't get it. I like the appearance of, and would like to be able to wear, certain articles of Victorian and earlier dress (high on my wish list is a proper cloak). this doesn't mean I know where to get those items, especially cheap!

okay, rant over. back to the search.

Can't promise much, but I would start at these pages... (http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/18thlinks.htm#Reproduction%20Clothing%20for%20Reenactors)

the style you are looking for is Baroque, possibly Rococo.
As far as I recall about 1750-1800

You might also want to check Theater Costumes, sometimes a theater will sell theirs because they don't have the room to stock all their costumes. These are usually really sturdy as they have to survive a lot of practice, shows and cleaning!
